Fees and information on Counselling sessions

Ocean Counselling is a 'Not for Profit' organisation and counselling is provided on a voluntary basis by qualified counsellors. Counselling sessions last for about 55 minutes and are available during the day and in the evenings up to around 7.30 pm at Chipping Campden, North Gloucestershire.

We suggest a contribution of £25 for an initial or 'one off' session which covers the costs involved. Contributions for further sessions can be talked through with the client in order to reflect financial circumstances and we will do our best to help with a contribution fee that you feel comfortable with and that you feel is affordable.

Home and Online Counselling

Sometimes it can feel difficult to leave the safety of your own home when very worried or anxious - or there may be transport problems or other issues which make it difficult to have Counselling at the location that we offer. If for any reason you would prefer to have Counselling in your own home a Home Counselling Service is available.

If you would like to have Home Counselling or receive Counselling Online please call to speak with a Counsellor who will be happy to discuss your needs. There is no extra charge for our Home Counselling service for clients who live in the general local vicinity to the counselling rooms at Chipping Campden.

Professional Standards and Professional Bodies

The Counselling profession is regulated by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) a well-established and well respected professional overseeing body. The BACP has established an ethical framework outlining a code of ethical and professional conduct which has been constantly updated since it’s conception in 1978. A searchable list of 'Registered Accredited Members' is available on the BACP website. Professional Counsellors are committed to working within the ethical framework guidelines and are accountable to this professional body, and can only remain registered by continuing to work within the ethical framework and demonstrate competency and professional growth. The BACP require Counsellors to have qualified at a 'Diploma' level 4 or above before they can join the accredited list - and it is strongly recommended that anyone seeking Counselling help should look out for this accreditation which demonstrates a professional level of competence

Ethical guidance for the practice of Psychotherapy is also put forward by another professional Counselling body, the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), established around 20 years ago this professional body is again well-established and is both a support for therapists and a resource for clients

Confidentiality
Confidentiality is understandably one of the biggest areas of concern for many who are considering Counselling. Here, clear assurances can be made by the Counsellor and by Ocean Counselling. Confidentiality is always assured within the boundaries of The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) ethical framework. If you are considering harming yourself or are already doing so, this is something that can be sensitively discussed within the confines of confidentiality. In the event that you are feeling that you could harm someone else, this too can initially be discussed sensitively and in confidence. The BACP ethical framework outlines two main areas which are exempt from the client/counsellor confidentiality agreement or contract. These two areas relate to: Any information revealed by the client that relates to an act or planned act of terrorism or information relating to the harm or possible harm of someone under the age of 18. Confidential information is stored and disposed of in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018

Insurance
All Counsellors must have insurance cover - required under the BACP guidelines for professional practice. Ocean Counselling carries the required level of insurance for professional practice

Administration - environmental policy
Ocean Counselling attempts to operate in a way that respects the environment as much as is possible by cutting down excessive or unwanted journeys and paying attention to logistics and planning. We use energy saving and recycled products as often as we can and recycle all our (non-confidential) waste paper and other products. We try to cut down our energy use in as many ways as possible
